As part of the YMCA’s commitment to healthy living, the Sacramento Central YMCA will begin offering a new community Healthy Families Program. The Healthy Family Program has three components: nutrition, fitness, and cooking classes. The six-week program will be held on Wednesday’s starting July 11 through August 15 from 6:00 to 7:30pm.
“The YMCA is here to help families create and maintain healthy lives,” says Jay Lowden, President & CEO of the YMCA of Superior California. “We believe that families that commit to fitness and spend quality time cooking together will lead healthier lives and start traditions that will be passed down for generations.”
The Healthy Family Program’s nutrition education and cooking classes will be led by a certified nutritionist. Cooking programming will include recipes such as quick chicken cacciatore, healthier mac and cheese, blackened tilapia Baja tacos, turkey and chutney pita wraps, healthy water infused drinks and healthy holiday party foods. Attendees will mix, chop, and prepare dinner as a family and learn recipes that they can take home.
After families complete the nutrition education portion of the class, then they will be led through a family fitness class. Each week of the 6-week program will offer either Family Zumba® or Family Yoga lead by a Certified Fitness Instructor from the Sacramento Central YMCA.
Costs per class for the Healthy Family Program is $15 for adults, $9 for children ages 6 to 12 years old, and $3 for children under age 5. There is a 10% discount for the full six-week program registration. Financial Assistance is available through the YMCA’s Y-Assist Fund.
The YMCA’s Healthy Family Program is made possible thanks to Raley’s.
