Oroville YMCA January Newsletter

Published 01.02.19

Welcome to our bimonthly newsletter. We hope you enjoyed the updates and information from the last newsletter and that you enjoy this one just as much. The weather outside is cooling down, and while that might make many of us want to stay in, read ahead to see what the Y has to offer and come on down!

We hope you stayed happy and safe during the holidays and got to spend time with your family and friends. 2018 ended on a glum note with the Camp Fire, but we hope there are great things to come for everyone in 2019.

Have a New Years Resolution? Look at the column on the left for some goal-setting tips!

We were able to help the Paradise community during the Camp Fire by offering free day camp to evacuees while the schools were closed. Adrianna reports that the new kids meshed with our veteran campers extremely well and our “family” grew by leaps and bounds. A grandmother wrote the following note: “I want to say a personal thank you to the YMCA. My grandchildren are displaced from Paradise, and attended the day camp yesterday. They had a great time, and came home happy and tired. They have been missing friends and play time, and your organization provided a safe haven and a break from the stress… for the kids and to my daughter.” Children from Pine Ridge Elementary School in Magalia temporarily used the building behind the church that we rent to hold their classes when school resumed. Although we had to change our class schedule for a few weeks so karate could be held in the main building, we were glad to help the students. We are happy to report that they have been able to move back into their school in Magalia. Our classes are now back to the usual start times. Thank you for your patience!

A big thank you to our guests, donors, the Copa de Oro and our committee members for a very successful holiday event. Due to the generosity of everyone involved, our biggest fundraiser was a huge success and will allow us to continue to fund programs for our kids. We’d love to see more members attend next year!

Summer Day camp may feel far away, but sign ups begin on March 1! Bussed field trip sign ups, payment plans, and financial aid are available on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE basis, so come in as early as possible! We accept Valley Oaks and other 3rd Party payments, but we will still need registration packets filled out and paperwork for proof of payment in order to complete sign ups. Come in or call for more info!

Our annual open house is being held on January 5th from 9am-Noon.
