Dear Community Member,
The YMCA is a service organization and as so we strive to meet the ever changing challenges of our communities. Due to updated CDC guidelines, the governor’s guidelines, and our county health officials, we will be canceling all services other than child care at the end of business today. To this end, and due to the shortage of facilities available to us in the region, we have elected to temporarily transform our fitness center facilities into emergency child care sites where possible and suspend all health and wellness programming. We thank our facility members for their understanding during this unprecedented time and we will communicate with you when we will re-open.
As part of these emergency child care centers, we have reached out to local hospitals and cities so that medical staff and first responders have somewhere to turn to for child care during this crisis. We are prioritizing those essential employees in our community for care so they don’t have to worry that their children are in a safe place, as they care for a growing number of our loved ones during this difficult time. Our current families in need of care are the next priority for care. The locations of YMCA Child Care Centers that will be open can be found online at: www.ymcasuperiorcal.org/childcare2020.
In addition to these vital programs, our Y is working on:
- expanding our food program to those children in need of healthy and nutritious meals while school is not in session
- reaching out to our 65+ members to see how we can help them and work on solutions to their needs because they are a valued part of our community
- creating at home health and wellness programming for all through apps, emails, and videos to help you stay healthy: spirit, mind, and body
Your YMCA family is committed to being there for you, your neighbors, and our community. We ask that you join us in the efforts and support the Y though your continued payments so that we may employ our team members to continue these life- changing, and life-saving, services. If you need to put your membership on hold or to defer a portion of your child care payment, please contact us and we will do that for you, but we invite you to join us in service to others needing our help and consider those fees a donation to the Y. We know the Y is a vital part of your and your families’ lives, and that you care about the well-being of the staff and other participants and members. We appreciate your efforts to help this organization do the important work needed during these times of turbulence for many.
We continue to work closely with city, county, and state officials to meet the needs before us and to communicate changes to you in real time. You can look for future communications from us regarding health and wellness at home and other updates on how to manage through these challenging times both via email and on our website: ymcasuperiorcal.org
Thank you for your support and understanding.
