Food Program

During the Coronavirus Emergency, Meal Sites for children in the Sacramento community will begin serving lunches during the week of March 23. Per Federal Guidelines, a child must be present to receive a meal, however, requirements that the meals have to be consumed onsite have been waived. These sites will operate curbside so that people will not have to leave their vehicles.

“The YMCA is continuing our mission to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, even during these critical times” says Sharna Braucks, President & CEO, YMCA of Superior California. ”Making sure kids continue to have free nutritious meals available during this crisis is another way the YMCA can continue to be of service for our community.”

The YMCA is in the process of adding more sites in partnership with the City of Sacramento and Sacramento City Unified School District.

Each summer, the YMCA of Superior California serves more than 500 free lunches a day to youth at partner locations throughout our community, through our Summer Food Program.

Food is in when school is out!

During the school year, more than 16.9 million children receive free and reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. However, only 2.3 million, or about 12 percent, of these young people have access to free meals over the summer break. The Y's Summer Food Program is designed to fill this summertime gap – ensuring that all children receive the nutritious meals they need to thrive.

This summer, the YMCA of Superior California, in partnership with the Walmart Foundation, will provide more than 500 free lunches a day to youth at partner locations throughout our community, through our Summer Food Program.

This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
