The YMCA of Superior California partners with the American Red Cross to offer certification courses in CPR, First Aid, AED, Lifeguarding, and Babysitting. With expert instruction and hands-on training, participants gain the skills and confidence to respond to emergencies and make a difference in their community.

Lifeguard Training Prerequisites
Must be 15 years old by the last day of the course. Complete 8 hours of e-learning before the first class (completion certificate required).
Swim test requirements:
- Swim 300 yards continuously (front crawl or breaststroke only; goggles allowed)
- Tread water 2 minutes using legs only
- Timed event (1:40):Swim 20 yards (no goggles)
- Surface dive 10-12 ft to retrieve a 10-lb object
- Swim 20 yards back on your back, holding the object with both hands, face at/near surface
- Exit water without ladder or steps

CPR Class Information
Our CPR & First Aid courses prepare you to respond with confidence.
CPR Training covers adult, child, and infant CPR, AED use, and choking response. Meets child care licensing and California Teaching Credential requirements.
First Aid Training includes injury assessment, bleeding control, fractures, sprains, burns, shock, and common medical emergencies.
- American Health & Safety Institute approved
- Meets OSHA standards
- Includes 2-year certification & electronic manual
- Not a healthcare provider course
- 3 hours of online work required before class

Babysitting Certification
Perfect for ages 11–16, this course teaches safe and responsible childcare, leadership skills, and pediatric CPR/First Aid. Taught by certified Red Cross instructors, participants earn an American Red Cross Babysitting Certification upon completion.
