Finding Your Place at the Y

At the YMCA, wellness isn’t about perfection—it’s about belonging. Every day, members show up to improve their strength and confidence one workout, swim, or stretch at a time. The Y offers a supportive space to focus on what matters most: feeling better and living well.

Longtime member Mary Reynolds has experienced that spirit firsthand. She credits her instructor, Tia Fitzpatrick, for making fitness both accessible and uplifting. “She’s personable, enthusiastic, patient, and supportive,” Mary shared. “She’s vastly improved my fitness in spite of my significant health constraints. That is the greatest gift ever, especially as we age.”

Mary’s story is echoed by many others who have found a sense of renewal and confidence in the Y’s programs. For member Marquese Perry, that atmosphere is what sets the Y apart. “The YMCA gym carries a calm and welcoming atmosphere,” he shared. “It feels less like a high-pressure fitness center and more like a community hub.” Instead of loud competitiveness, Marquese found “a respectful, comfortable environment where people greet one another, encourage each other, and take their time. The pace is steady, the energy is relaxed, and it feels like a place where you can focus on your health without judgment—almost like an extension of home.”

Together, voices like Mary’s and Marquese’s paint a picture of what makes the Y special: a supportive, non-judgmental place where people from all backgrounds and abilities can take steps toward better health. Every YMCA program is built to meet people where they are, offering inclusive options for all ages and fitness levels.
