WATER EXERCISE CLASSES
Water exercise classes are a fun way to use the resistance and buoyancy of the water to improve cardiovascular fitness, strength, and flexibility. classes combine light to moderate aerobic workout with exercises in the shallow and deep water to help increase endurance, core strength, and flexibility. Water exercise is perfect if you’re looking for a fun, low impact workout.
A Typical Class
All classes take place in our heated indoor pool in either shallow or deep water. The instructor leads participants through cardio movements such as walking, jogging, kicking, cross-country ski movements, and jumping jacks.

Equipment Needed
- Water exercise equipment
- The Y provides all equipment for this class
Attire and What to Bring
- Come to class dressed and ready for the pool
- Proper swim attire is required (swimsuit), no basketball shorts, street clothes, etc.
- Water shoes (encouraged)
- Towel, water bottle, aqua jacket (optional)
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Arthritis
This class allows you to exercise without putting excess strain on your joints and muscles. The gentle activities in warm water, with exercise approved by the arthritis foundation
This class takes place in shallow water. Exercises approved by the Arthritis Foundation include walking, gentle stretching, flexing, extension, and range-of-motion. Exercises are done in shallow water and focus on activities of daily living, moving a joint through your range of motion and holding it to feel a gentle stretch in the muscle
Water Movement
This is a very basic, low-impact, light-intensity workout using the natural resistance of the water to strengthen core musculature, increase balance, coordination, and flexibility. Water Movement is appropriate for those just starting an exercise program or those interested in water exercise.
This class takes place in s in shallow water. Instructors lead the class through a light-intensity cardio workout that consists of movements around in the water. Movements are forward, backward, and side-to-side. Different types and styles of walking movements are performed such as forward, backward, and side-to-side.
Water Exercise
This low-impact water workout focuses on cardiovascular training, muscle toning, flexibility, and coordination.
This class takes place in shallow water. The instructor leads participants through cardio movements such as walking, jogging, kicking, cross-country ski movements, and jumping jacks.
Water Aerobics
This class provides a high-intensity workout that includes a combination of shallow and deep-water exercises to increase strength and endurance for the upper and lower body and core. A variety of equipment is used.
This class takes place in either shallow or deep water. The instructor leads participants through cardio movements such as walking, jogging, kicking, cross-country ski movements, and jumping jacks.
